Who is Red Raider Softball?   Red Raider Softball, Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)3 public charity organization operating in Montgomery County, MD.  The sole purpose of Red Raider Softball is to make fast pitch softball opportunities available to the youth of the county by providing the foundation to learn, practice and play the game of softball.  We are a fully independent, self sufficient organization.  We are incorporated in the State of Maryland.

Where are the practices & games    Most Red Raider Softball team practices and games are held in upper Montgomery County - places like Darnestown, Germantown, Clarksburg, Gaithersburg, Poolesville, Rockville, etc.  What makes us different than most other organizations is that we are not attached to one geographic area.  We ultimately serve all of Montgomery County as well as the State of Maryland (or others for that matter).  We work very hard to have our practices & games in areas that suit our members & players.  Our TRAVEL teams, however, will practice in Montgomery County, but could participate in tournaments all over Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, etc.

What programs do you offer?  We offer a full range of programs to fit every level of softball for any level of experience.

            Here is a quick listing:

RECREATION (REC) SOFTBALL  - REC softball is intended for any player skill level. Our REC softball teams are for any player 9-16 years old.  Players will learn the game from experienced softball coaches, as well as play at a recreation pace. Practices are generally held one night per week and games are usually played on 1 weeknight and 1 weekend day. Spring season runs from April through early June.  Fall season runs from September through October. Click HERE for more information on our Rec Softball program.

TRAVEL SOFTBALL-  Travel softball is offered for players 8 - 18 years old that posses higher skills and want to compete on a higher level. Our travel softball teams typically participate in 6-8 tournaments (several are in the DC/Baltimore area & typically one distance tournament).  Our travel teams typically practice 2-3 nights/week for approximately 2.5 hours. The  Travel Softball Program (TRV) runs from September through early August.  Indoor batting/fielding training and pitcher/catcher training is included in the TRV program, as well as player equipment bag and batting helmet.  Click HERE for more info on our Travel Softball program.

BEGINNER'S CLINICS - If you are new to softball, this is your clinic.  Our Beginner's Softball Clinic (BSC) is geared to the brand new player, teaching the basics of the game from catching, throwing and batting, as well as the fundamentals & rules. Click HERE for more info on our Beginner's Softball Clinics.

WINTER WORKOUT PROGRAM - Our Winter Workout Program (WWP) is a great way for players of all skill levels to keep in softball shape during the winter months as well as enhance the basic through advanced skills needed to compete in fast pitch softball.  Click HERE for more info on our Winter Workout Program.

Who Can Play?    We accept any player from age 8 - 18 (and beyond in some cases) in any skill level. Our teams are broken down into 2 categories - REC and TRAVEL.  They are broken down further into several age divisions - 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U & 18U.  As an example, 10U means that any player 10 years old and Under can play in that age division, and so on for the other groups.  We currently have the following age divisions in our 2 softball categories:

REC Softball:                        10U (10 years old & under)
                                                                  12U (12 years old & under)
                                                                  14U (14 years old & under)
                                                                  16U (16 years old & under)

                    TRAVEL Softball:

                                                                         10U (10 years old & under)

                                                                         12U (12 years old & under)

                                                                         14U (14 years old & under)

                                                                         16U (16 years old & under)

                                                                         18U (18 years old & under)

Do I get a uniform?    Yes!  Our REC program includes full uniforms.  Our REC players receive a pair of shorts, numbered jersey and socks.  REC players receive a new uniform with each registration for each season.  For our TRAVEL players, uniforms are purchased separately during their initial registration at an additional expense above the TRV program fee.  No new uniforms are supplied with each subsequent registration.

What equipment does my child need to bring?   For REC softball, players should have their own softball glove, bat and helmet.  Talk to your coach about sizes and what types of equipment to purchase.  There does not need to be a big expense outlaid for this.  Typically any decent equipment will do.  For TRAVEL softball, players are required to have their own equipment. However, a batting helmet and player gear bag are included in the travel softball fee.
